Why Appoint Khalil?
Hands-on, not armchair. Khalil remains an active litigator and advocate in courts and arbitration alongside his work as a neutral, so his approach to case management and procedure is grounded in what's genuinely workable in real proceedings, not abstracted from years away from practice.
Business judgment alongside legal reasoning. Years spent inside complex commercial and construction disputes have given him a working sense of commercial risk and what actually drives a dispute for the parties involved, not only its legal technicalities. He approaches a case the way an experienced business advisor would: focused on what's actually at stake, not just what's arguable.
Rigorous, well-reasoned decisions. Senior-level legal experience underpins a disciplined, carefully-reasoned approach to complex or novel legal questions; the kind of close, defensible reasoning parties want behind a written award or a mediated settlement they can rely on.
Cross-jurisdictional fluency. Dual-qualified as a lawyer in Ontario and as a solicitor of England & Wales, giving him working command of both Canadian and English common-law procedure and arbitral practice: A real advantage in commercial and construction disputes that cross borders, reference English-law contracts, or sit under institutional rules or substantive laws drawn from either tradition.
Multilingual. Allowing direct engagement with counsel, parties, and documents in cross-border or Francophone-jurisdiction disputes without relying on interpretation at every stage.
