Biography
Khalil is a bilingual, dual-qualified dispute resolution lawyer.
A key name in the arbitration community, Khalil's practice focuses on commercial and construction arbitration. He sits as an arbitrator in ad-hoc and institutional arbitration disputes, and has extensive experience managing complex litigation. He is also an adjunct professor on dispute resolution in law faculties.


Practice Focus
Khalil focuses on advising clients on managing risk and resolving disputes relating to commercial, business, engineering and construction disputes. He is highly experienced in resolving disputes through national and international arbitration (in which respect he has experience of all of the major arbitral institutions and of ad hoc arbitration) and by other dispute resolution methods, including adjudication, litigation and mediation. Khalil is experienced and knowledgeable in a wide range of sectors, including financial services, business and corporate law, engineering and construction, industrial and manufacturing. 

Representative Legal Matters

  • Acting for the general contractor in a CCDC arbitration in relation to a dispute arising from the construction of two Olympic-size ice rinks in BC, pertaining to delay, change orders and variations.
  • Acting for an energy and agricultural cooperative in northern Ontario in an arbitration arising from a shareholders’ dispute and pertaining to breach of contract, fiduciary duties, and allegations of fraud and misrepresentation.
  • Acting for a design and build contractor in a dispute before the SCJ, arising from a CCDC contract for the design and construction of an extension building to a recreational facility in northwest Ontario.
  • Acting for an insured shoring and demolition contractor in a dispute before the SCJ, arising from a breach of contract and resulting to damages caused to adjacent properties.
  • Acting for a Strata Corporation against the general contractor and a number of subcontractors before the Supreme Court of BC, arising from a breach of contract and breach of duty of care.
